2 for the price of one

19 Apr

Today I’ve done a poem about a topical event and another in response to napowrimo. Here goes:

Pontfadog

A gale blew and blew and a tree fell and died
It was an ancient tree and it was rotten inside
The villagers moaned and the villagers cried
For the tree with its roots pointing up to the sky

A man on the radio talked of things the tree saw
Like Welsh princes rallying their troops during war
And he mourned the fact that we should have done more
To care for the tree and keep it safe and secure

There are some now who want to restore the tree
To prop it up with planks for everybody to see
But after twelve hundred years, if it were me
I’d want everybody to just leave me be.

A personal ad: Peter the Great

6 foot 8 tsar with rather small feet
and penchant for travel would quite like to meet
beardless consort for co-autocracy
and for bearing children who won’t challenge me

The ideal tsarina will be beautiful
With a powerful brain underneath a fair skull
And it doesn’t matter if she can’t read or write
If she’ll surrender her jewels to save me in a fight

Pontfadog is very good. What is it with you and Peter the Great?

Thanks! Went to the Peter the Great exhibition in Amsterdam recently and he just stuck with me.
