How to avoid being a victim of ‘Audience Participation’

22 Apr

For day 19 of napowrimo

The steely eye of Mordor
Sweeps out from on the stage
Looking for a victim
With whom he can engage

Do not make eye contact
Do not move an inch
He’s looking to humiliate
Anybody he can pinch

He’ll joke at your expense
He will make you squirm
Know that he’s a vulture
And to him you’re just a worm

And everyone else, how they’ll laugh
When he’s taken you for prey
Their laughter – ecstatic relief
That it was you – not they

So do not make eye contact
Be small and bow your head
If that demon showman gets you
You’d wish that you were dead

Loved this, so true. Audience participation truly is the stuff of nightmares. I think I’ve perfected the art of avoiding eye contact throughout my school years.
